

Sharrard Hopkins Douglass died on July 21, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was born in San Antonio on June 9, 1930, to Sharrard and Stella Jane Hopkins, who preceded her in death.
She was reared in a house filled with music and books. At the University of Texas Delta Delta Delta where she majored in piano, she met and later married her husband Dr. Clifton Ford Douglass, Jr.
They lived in Galveston for the medical school years and in New Orleans for his specialty training Radiology at the Ochsner Clinic, where their three children were born. Returning to San Antonio in 1961, Dr. Douglass affiliated with Radiology Associates and Sharrard enjoyed their children's school years, their friends, their church Laurel Heights and Alamo Heights Methodist, and her organizations Military-Civilian, Battle of Flowers Association, Medical Auxiliary.
When the children were grown, Sharrard returned to school The University of the Incarnate Word and received two more degrees, later enjoying her teaching English Literature at Southwest Texas State University, Sul Ross University, and one term at the University of Coahuila, Mexico.
She authored two books and many short stories and was a member of the Academy of American Poets and Writers. Dr. and Mrs. Douglass enjoyed travel and often took their entire family, including grandchildren, on trips to favorite countries.
Sharrard's happy life was exciting and filled with loving family and friends, She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Dr. Clifton Ford Douglass, Jr.; daughter, Heather Douglass Wolff Harry, Jr.; son, Clifton Ford Douglass III Beth; daughter, Hillary Douglass Noe Russell; grandchildren, Harry Walter Wolff III Erin, Clifton Ford Douglass IV "Ford", Katherine Elizabeth Douglass "Kate", Heather Inzer Noe, Laurel Douglass Noe and Sage Hopkins Noe; and great-grandson, Harry Walter Wolff IV "Hank".
