Born on the 4th of July, 1940, the first child of the late Joe Todd and Mary Louise Russell, Shirley passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, in Houston. A long-time resident of Converse, Texas, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Patricia Ann Russell. Both were educators in the Judson Independent School District for many years.
S.T. is survived by his two daughters, Paula and husband Steve Clarner of Pearland, Texas, and Melissa and husband Ryan Sweeney, of San Antonio; grandsons Evan Clarner (and wife, Esjona), Aidan Sweeney, Connor Sweeney, and granddaughter Erin Clarner; brothers Richard and Joe, and sisters Mary Lou Marshall and Diane Miles; a niece and numerous nephews.
He grew up in Laredo, graduating from Martin High School and then attended Sul Ross State University. During this time, he received numerous football letters and a scholarship. Upon graduating from college, he entered the teaching and coaching profession. He later returned to school to receive his Masters Degree in Education from Our Lady of The Lake University. He was a Teacher, Coach, and Campus Administrator working in the El Paso ISD, Laredo ISD, San Antonio ISD, and Judson ISD. After 30 years in the Texas Public School System, he retired from Judson ISD and continued his life-long passion supporting high school football. He touched many lives in the classroom and in athletics.
The family will be receiving friends and family on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 11:00-12:30 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E.
Funeral Services begin Friday, February 14, 2025 at 12:30 P.M. also at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E.
Interment will directly follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
