

He was born on August 13, 1917, in Amsterdam, NY to mother Cecilia and father William Roicki. He grew up in Amsterdam as a popular all star basketball player.
After high school he enlisted in the US Army and joined the Coastal Artillery stationed in Honolulu, HI in 1936. His company was Battery B 41 Coastal Artillery. During his time there he played on the All Star Basketball team for Ft. Kamehameha and led the team to many wins and earned his nickname "Slant".
He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, when the US was attached and manned the big guns. After the attack at Pearl Harbor he was sent to OCS and was commissioned as a military pilot. He earned the rank Captain in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the military after 31 years of service.
He was a loving and caring father. He was blessed by family in his golden years and will all miss him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Roicki.
He is survived by his sister, Sophie Chlopecki; loving son, Gary Roicki; daughter, Marcia Varady, her husband Thomas Varady, and their children, Monika and husband Royce Warren, Tom A. Varady, Bela Varady, and Marta Susie Varady; son, Rick Roicki and wife Fay and their children, Drew, Tyler and Clayton Roicki; and great-grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Erika and Nikole Warren, and Keely Varady.
