

Stella Allene Megginson Wilhite Brown was born December 28, 1922 to Monnie Youngblood Megginson and Hugh Alexander Megginson. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, she attended San Antonio Junior College and Our Lady of the Lake University. Her major was in Music Education. She was elected to Sigma Aloha Iota International Music Fraternity. Piano and Pipe Organ were her passion and she not only received personal pleasure but shared her talents throughout her life. Her music and her faith sustained her.
Her first husband, Capt. David Lee Wilhite, a B-24 Pilot, was killed in action in the European Theater in World War II. After the war ended, she met and married the Rev. Joseph Lewis Brown upon his return as a Chaplain after serving in the European Theater in World War II. They were married August 30, 1946.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Monnie Madeline Brown Groos (Billy) and is survived by her daughter, Mary Holland Brown; and son, Joseph Michael Brown. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Sarah Groos McCracken (Brewster), Anna Penniman Groos Saunders (Doug), Julia Talbot Groos Anderson (Brian), Rebecca Allene Brown Capps (Tim), Madeline Holland Brown Fuller (Justin) and Joseph Lewis Brown II. She was blessed with nine great grandchildren.
She served on different levels of church organizations: on Diocesan Standing Committee, Senior Warden of The Church of Reconciliation (after Joe’s death), and the Morningside Ministries Board as a representative of the Episcopal Church. She served as Bishop Everett Jones secretary for twenty-six years. She was a member of the Junior Leagues of San Antonio and Corpus Christi, the Battle of Flowers Association and the Tuesday Musical Club. She also served on the board of the YWCA, Corpus Christi, Texas. She also enjoyed her membership in the Monte Vista Garden Club and The Forum.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:00am at The Church of Reconciliation, 8900 Starcrest, San Antonio, Tx.
A reception will follow at Brown Hall. The service will be live-streamed. Streaming links will be posted on the website at cor-satx.org.
