Steve was born on October 29, 1952, to William and Frances (Fitzgerald) Carlson in San Diego, California. He was raised in Duncan, Oklahoma, and graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1974. He married Virginia Eileen Page, of Austin, Texas, on June 4, 1977.
Steve spent his career in the freight and shipping industries, but his true passion was teaching and preaching. He served more than 25 years as the preacher for Rose Hill Church of Christ in Devine, Texas, and taught Bible classes there as well as at churches such as Northside Church of Christ in San Antonio. Friends still remember Steve’s lessons and how he and Eileen loved to sing hymns together. He was quick to laugh or to cry, a man of gentle and pure emotion. He was a caring father, a devoted husband, and a loyal friend.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen, and his parents, William and Frances. He is survived by his son, Daniel Carlson, and wife Tracy (Manford), of Missouri City, Texas; daughter, Sarah Carlson, of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Deborah “Ruthie” Jones, of Rosharon, Texas; sister-in-law, Martha Davis, and husband, Jim, of Austin, Texas; multiple nieces and nephews and their children; and friends and loved ones whose kindness and constancy in his life was a blessing beyond anyone’s ability to tell it.
