Dr. Inscore was born on September 21, 1952 in Oceanside, California. As one of the nation's top pediatric pulmonologists, Dr. Inscore devoted over 25 years of his career to caring for critically ill children with Cystic Fibrosis and developing new treatment options that would prolong and improve the quality of their lives.
From 2001 until 2008, he served as Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Pediatric Pulmonary Division at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During that time he taught countless medical students and residents who are now applying his wisdom in the treatment of their own patients. Prior to his service at UTHSC, he served at Fort Sam Houston's Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas and became their Chief of Pediatrics. He was eventually promoted to the prestigious rank of Colonel and awarded one of the Army's highest honors, the Legion of Merit, in 2002 in recognition of his commitment to patient care and many years of outstanding military service.
In 2007 Dr. Inscore was diagnosed with ALS and, shortly thereafter, made the difficult decision to retire from teaching and the practice of medicine. Following his retirement, he was elected as a Fellow to the prestigious American College of Chest Physicians. It was his final and highest honor.
In addition to his brilliant medical career, Dr. Inscore was an avid biker, reader, gardener, and hiker. He had a passion for traveling, listening to all types of music, cooking, and engaging in conversation. He was a devoted friend to many and a great entertainer who could often be spotted with a smile on his face, a Hawaiian shirt on his back, and a carefully selected glass of wine in his hand. He had four "loves of his life": the Lord, his two children, and his wife, Anne, who he regarded as his "angel." He was a gifted healer, a family man with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, and a kind-hearted soul who did so much for so many. Those who knew him will remember and cherish all these things, as well as the extraordinary faith, strength, and courage he demonstrated as he battled his unfortunate disease.
Dr. Inscore is survived by his wife, Anne Inscore; son, Taylor Inscore of Abilene, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Olivia and Taylor Heaton of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren, Brandt and Emilie Heaton; parents, Jim and Billie Inscore; brothers, Jimmy Inscore and Craig and Tina Inscore of Joplin, Missouri; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Bill Walior; niece and nephews, Matthew, Brian, and Beth Anne Walior of San Antonio, Texas and numerous relatives, all of whom he loved and cherished.
