Steve E. Holloway passed away on August 14, 2023 at the age of 76. Steve was known for his dedication to both banking and wildlife management in South Texas at The Cometa Ranch. His life was a testament to hard work, determination, and pursuit of passion.
Born in the small town of Monroe, Louisiana, Steve’s journey was one of resilience and ambition. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont on a football scholarship, but, was halted by an injury. This led him to a successful banking career where he quickly climbed the business ladder from Commercial Mortgage Lending to President of First Federal Savings and Loan in San Antonio. He was very much respected in his business community.
Steve loved hunting with his buddies at The Cometa Ranch in South Texas. He gained wonderful friends during his 40 years at The Cometa where he managed the hunting lease. Steve worked with the Texas Parks and Wildlife to manage the wildlife on The Cometa. This was his passion in life. He was jokingly referred to as “Lord of the Deer.” Steve was a beacon of wisdom and warmth. His tales from the boardroom to the trails of The Cometa were a source of inspiration and amusement to family and friends. Steve’s home is filled with books on whitetail management and arrowheads, of which he has an extensive collection, all found on The Cometa.
He leaves behind a loving wife of 30 years, Marilyn Holloway, three devoted children, Keith, Keri, and Clayton Holloway. Grandchildren, Mary Bailey Margoliner, Parker Holloway, and Lauren Holloway as well as many of Marilyn’s family and many friends who greatly respected and loved him.
