Steven E. Koenig, age 69 passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 30, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. Steve was born on November 6, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He met his loving wife while in Arlington, Virginia in 1971 and they were wed in 1974.
Steve enjoyed the pursuit of education throughout his successful career and into his retirement years.
He earned his under graduate degree from Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio, where he was currently serving as a Trustee. This was the first step in a long and successful career in aviation sales, which began with Fokker Aircraft in the Washington DC area, followed by a threeyear adventure in England working for Rolls Royce Engines. A return to Fairchild Dornier brought Steve, and his beloved wife Sharon, to San Antonio Texas, their current residence.
In retirement Steve continued to pursue his love of education by earning a Master's degree in History from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He spent untold hours of service with the San Antonio Food Bank, as a member of the Dominion Rotary Club and also served on the Alamo College Foundation Board. His calling for philanthropic causes kept him busy in retirement and always stated he was too busy to play golf. His love of travel was such a joy that with each wedding anniversary he planned a new location to explore. He planned for activities that they could pursue together – extensive travel, cooking classes in the wine country, movies, golf carting, walking, enjoying their 'pups' and exploring new areas in Texas. He was an avid Spurs fan and loved his Washington Redskins. Their new life adventure was to was to move to a new home in Florida in January. Life together was a never ending honeymoon.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Paton Koenig; and uncle and aunt, Jack and Glenn Paton. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sharon Pfleger Koenig; brother, Richard Koenig and wife, Georgia; sister-in-law, Elaine Patenaude (Bob); nieces and nephews, Pam and Michele Koenig, Kristen Coffel (Anthony), Brandon Bovey (Kendall), Maisie Bovey, Heather DosSantos (Deny), Owen, Cliff, and Ozzy Pfleger DosSantos, Gigi and Ryan Pfleger; and "his girls", Darby and Bella.
