For many years he had struggled with the effects of muscular dystrophy. Steve's positive attitude and regular humor, in light of the nature of his condition, were an inspiration to all of his family.
Steve was born in Spokane, Washington to William and Betty McGinnis. He had an older brother, Mike and two sisters, Judy Moe and Jill McGinnis. Steve grew up in Keokuk, Iowa and graduated from Keokuk High School in 1967. Steve loved the summer cottage his family has on Lake Okoboji in northern Iowa. It was the home of many great memories and fun times. He attended Parsons College and joined the Navy.
Steve was extremely proud of his son, Robert, who is an eagle scout, a college graduate and who with his wife, Ann are the parents of Steve's only grandchild, Amber. He kept many pictures of Amber always in sight of his bed and talked about her often.
Steve lived in Colorado for several years before moving to San Antonio in 1980. Steve was an avid reader of mystery novels, much like his dad.
Steve was a die-hard Denver Bronco fan and kept up with games, trades and was particularly pleased that John Elway was inducted into the Hall of Fame just recently.
Steve also kept up on current affairs and there were few topics of current interest that he was not aware of and had an opinion about.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty and his father, Bill.
Steve is survived by his son, Robert McGinnis and his wife, Ann; his granddaughter, Amber; brother, Mike McGinnis and his wife, Shirley; sister, Judy and her husband, Palmer Moe, sister, Jill; step-mother, Bea McGinnis; five nephews and nieces and their six children. In lieu of flowers, Steve requested that gifts be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 2391 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78217 or Christus Santa Rosa Hospice, 4415 Centerview Dr., San Antonio, TX 78228.
