

She was born August 12, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska. During her school years at Bryan High School, she was active in orchestra, playing the viola. In 1981, she was selected as Czech Queen from Sokol South Omaha and served a year in that position, visiting many festivals throughout Nebraska. Susan was proud of her heritage and loved the music, dancing and lovely memories from her Babi (grandmother) and mother.
Susan attended Methodist School of Nursing in Omaha and after her investiture as an R.N., she moved to San Antonio to start her nursing career where she has done so for 36 years. She was recently nominated for a Daisy Award in her current position.
After her children were school age, Susan helped to establish a Catholic grade school in San Antonio so her boys could be educated in the Catholic faith. She was well loved and admired by all those who knew her.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, George Jr. and Helen (Janicek) Kurmel, grandparents Frank and Jarmila (Hamouz) Janicek and George Sr. and Theophilia (Sederewicz) Kurmel; sister Janet.
She is survived by husband, Todd; sons Thomas Marbach, Timothy (Taylor) Marbach, two grandchildren, Wesley and Macy; brothers Dr. Thomas (Sandra) Kurmel, Daniel (Colleen) Kurmel, niece Meagan (Matt) Gibbs, nephew Christian Kurmel, aunt Jerri Underwood and uncle Charles Kurmel, special cousin Judy Hackworth and many other cousins and friends.
