Susan Willett Johnson

Susan Willett Johnson passed away peacefully in her home on October 5th, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Rita Willett; and sister, Sharon Tanner. She is survived by her husband, Steve; children, Jeff (Arlene), Scott Johnson and Jill Walker (David); sisters, Joy Simon and Mary Powers (Charley); brother, Warren Willett; as well as nine grandchildren; three great grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Susan was born and raised in San Antonio, graduated from Incarnate Word High School and St. Mary’s University and began her career as a dedicated teacher at St. Ann’s, Mt. Sacred Heart and SAISD elementaries. She retired in 2006 after 35 years.

She married the love of her life, Steve, in 1970. They relished their 53 years together, enjoying traveling to see family in Georgia, Florida and Colorado as well as several cruises and a trip to Hawaii: usually with family. Sue’s main goal in life was to be a wife and mother: she doted on her three children, and she was thrilled each time a grand child was born. She had a total of nine: Dylan, Austin (Sofia) and Jake Johnson; Micaela, Payton and Sofia Johnson; and Clint, Ashley (Mason) and Josh Walker. It was a blessing that she was able to see her third great-grandson, Stetson, before she passed. Stetson joined Derek and Samuel in what is sure to be a growing number of great grandkids to come.

Throughout her life, Sue enjoyed traveling, reading suspense novels, having lunch with the “golf” wives, going to the movies, sewing and playing “Words With Friends” and other computer games. And as only Sue would, she never, ever forgot to send a birthday card—family was everything to her and sweet Sue was everything to us.
