

She graduated with honors from Emory University with a degree in art history. At Emory, she was a member and president of Kappa Delta Sorority. She received a master's degree from Vanderbilt University and a PhD in art history from the University of Georgia. Susan had lived in San Antonio since 1990.
Most recently, she taught art history at the University of Texas at San Antonio, having previously taught at St. Mary's University, University of the Incarnate Word, and Palo Alto College. She was active in the community of San Antonio's Keystone School, serving as PTO president for two years and as a member of the Board of Trustees.
In 1980, Susan married David Kaufman, who preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by her sons, David Brooks and Emmet Harrison; a sister, Karen Garrison and her husband, Roger and son Jim; and many nieces and nephews. These and extended family members will miss her greatly.

A family graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 27 in Lavonia, Georgia.
