Sylvia "Annie" West

Sylvia was born in Allen, Oklahoma, to T. L. and Delia (Barnett) Minton on September 1, 1932. She graduated from Lytle High School in Lytle, Texas in 1949, and went on to Business College. She married Alfred Ben Culp on November 19, 1951, in Lytle, Texas. After Ben’s passing, she worked at USAFSS Intelligence Division where she met John West, and they were married on August 6, 1966. She retired from Kelly Air Force Base Civil Service after many years of service as a GS 14. She was a member of ParkHills Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She loved fishing, reading and painting, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lee and Delia Minton; husband Alfred Ben Culp; husband John Edward West; Brothers, Leon Minton, Richard Minton, Jay Minton, Joe Minton, John Minton; Sister, Billie Rahmberg; Stepsons Joe West and William West.

Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Karen Vance, and her husband George; Stepdaughter Lynne West Vanheusden and her husband Ben; and her sister Sue Nowlin. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Amy Laraway and her husband Richard, Katrina Witt, Julie Witt, John West and his wife Brandi, Will West and his wife Shelby, Brian West, and Schad West. Sylvia was fortunate to have many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be 12:00 noon Friday, February 7th at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7th at Sunset Memorial Park followed immediately by a reception at Sunset Funeral Home.

Sylvia was very generous and donated to several charities. Memorials may be given to one of her favorite charities, Samaritan’s Purse.
