

He proudly served his country in World War II and in Korea. While serving at Ft. Sam Houston as a SFC, he met his wife, Mary, whom he married June 10, 1952.
He began his career working at Home Owned Groceries Store after which he spent 33 years working for Handy Andy Supermarkets as store manager and wine connoisseur. After retiring from Handy Andy, Talmadge continued working in the grocery industry with Albertsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Myrt Simmons; his sister, Betty; and his "special angel" Richard Lewis.
Talmadge is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Simmons of Shavano Park; sons, Dennis C. and his wife Terry, Ernie and his wife Angela, Jim and his wife Lorie, and Don Simmons, all of San Antonio; daughter, Beth Shepherd and her husband Casey of San Antonio; grandchildren, Rick, Sy, Bryan, Leah, Nathan and Jordyn; brother, Don Simmons and his wife Nadyne of Chicago, IL and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Juan Garza and the staff of North Central Baptist Hospital.
