

Ted A. Small of San Antonio, TX, age 83 passed away Friday, June 8, 2007. He was born in El Paso, where he met the love of his life in high school. He was a member of the ROTC when he attended Texas A&M but after one year, joined the Army and was a member of the 84th infantry. After his return from WWII and during his attendance at Texas College of Mines, he married his love, Lanier McMahan, and began their family. Receiving his degree in geology, Ted then worked for El Paso Natural Gas before moving to Del Rio and working for the U. S. Boundary Commission. Arriving with his family to San Antonio in 1969 Ted began his career with the U.S. Geological Survey, where he worked until his retirement at age 80. His studies took him to Big Bend National Park and he never tired of exploring this area. An avid fisherman and sometime hunter, he also enjoyed baseball, basketball and his Texas A&M football. Ted was a member of Castle Hills Baptist Church and the US Geological Association. He truly loved spending time with all his grandchildren, keeping in touch even though they were often far away. He was preceded in death by his wife Lanier Small. Ted is survived by son, Stuart A. Small and wife Georgene; daughters, Teddi Lash and husband Blair and Johnnie Lynn Small and husband James Traweek; grandchildren, Austin Small, Chelsea Small, Josh Ahoyt, Jessica Lash, Benjamin Lash and Samuel Lash; great grandchildren, Noah Benjamin Lash, Taylor Ahoyt and Tanner Ahoyt; special friend, Diane Pavlicek.
