The Reverend Barbara Mills Nardi Kurtz, beloved of God, joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on January 9, 2016. Barb was born on May 23, 1933 in San Mateo, California to Chalmer (Buck) and Etta Mills. She was blessed with two younger brothers, Bill and Artie. She married Lt. Gary L. Nardi on February 12, 1956 and began her journey as a military wife and mother.
With her children well on their way to adulthood, she completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Trinity University. Barb answered God's call to ministry, which she had held in her heart for years. She pursued Diaconal Ministry in the Methodist Church and worked in the field of Christian Education at local churches in the San Antonio area and in the District and Conference offices. In 1997, Barb was ordained to the order of Deacon in the Southwest Texas Annual Conference.
In the midst of her spiritual journey, and after the loss of Gary, Barb met and married Major (retired) Thomas A. Kurtz on November 25, 1995. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in November 2015 surrounded by family and friends.
Barb served and worshipped at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church, where both she and Tom were involved in numerous groups, committees, and activities. One of the most difficult, and most rewarding roles she took on was that of being a Stephen Minister.
Barb is survived by her husband and best friend, Tom Kurtz; her brother, Arthur Mills; children: Melissa Nardi, Myet Nardi, Chrys and Alan Hecox, Jason and Joann Nardi, Beth Kurtz, Craig and Ann Kurtz, and Lana Kurtz; grandchildren: Sarah Hudson, Joshua Hudson, Anthony Nardi, Jennifer Kurtz, McKenzie Kurtz, Addie Kurtz, Ian Thom, Austin Thom, Noel Thom, Paloma Thom and Jessie Rivas; and several nieces, nephews and their children.
