

Major Thomas Patrick Callahan, Retired USAF, age 85 passed away August 29, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born March 28, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to Thomas Patrick Callahan, Senior, and Frances Hyatt Callahan. He was proceeded in death by his father Thomas P. Sr., mother Frances Hyatt, brother William, sister Gloria Schroeder, and brother Monsignor Brian Callahan; all of Brooklyn, Queens, New York. He is survived by his wife Sheila, Sr. Elaine M. Callahan, daughter Mary JoAnn (Jodi); sons Kevin Brian, Sean Patrick, Keith Thomas, Seamus Mark, daughters Kelly Maureen with husband Ray Harding, and Shannon Marie with husband Allan Montez, John McEachern with wife Susan. Callahan grandchildren include Devon Shea with husband John, Tina Marie, Bryan Michael, Thomas Patrick III, Key Logan Chester, Ashlie Ford and Amanda McEachern. Great-grandchildren are Xavier, Xena, and Alison. He is remembered with great admiration and respect by his entire family and numerous nieces and nephew throughout the United States.
Tom retired from the U.S. Air Forces in 1970 where he was the Director of The Crypto School, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. As an AF veteran, Tom served in the Korean War, Europe, Middle-East, Africa, and in Vietnam. From 1975 -1980, Tom was vice principal and teacher at St. Mary’s School, San Antonio. He continued teaching during his next position with Central Catholic High School, as Director of Guidance and Counseling, where he retired in 1992. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes,Texas. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Air Force honors.
