It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Duncan Kirker, 92, of San Antonio, Texas. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and all-around “Great Guy”. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will forever be remembered.
Born on December 25, 1931, in Portland, Oregon, Tom dedicated 26 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Air Force, retiring honorably in 1977 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He later had a second career working for the Civil Service performing many of the same duties he carried out in the Air Force. His dedication to duty and honor was unwavering, reflecting a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to service. While retired, he earned an associate degree from St. Phillips College.
In a union that spanned an incredible 69 years, Tom shared a profound and enduring love with his beloved wife, Dawn. Together, they built a family rooted in love and trust, leaving behind an endearing family of three sons, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Tom had a remarkable talent for fixing anything and everything. His resourcefulness, ingenuity, and willingness to help others were a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
Tom was a man of many talents and passions. He had a love for golf that brought him endless joy, walking and playing three times a week into his mid-eighties. He was able to “shoot his age” the last twelve or so years. His skill on the course was matched only by the warmth of his smile and the kindness in his heart.
In addition to his family and his military service, Tom was involved in his community as a Shriner and a Mason. His involvement with these organizations exemplified his dedication to charity, brotherhood, and service to others.
Tom was a great man in every sense of the word – loved by all who knew him, respected by his peers, and admired for his integrity and kindness. He will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
