

Tom graduated from Trinity University with a degree in accounting and obtained his CPA in 1953 following World War II. As a captain in the U.S. Army, he was in the 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
Upon retirement, he began volunteering with tax assistance programs in San Antonio, a mentoring program at Ben Franklin Elementary school where Thomas helped children with reading and math. He also served as a board member of Ray Maas Youth Alternatives. For Thomas's volunteer service, he was awarded the Janey and Dolph Briscoe Award for Volunteerism in 1998. He was an avid golfer and reader.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Willie Mae (Bill); son, Thomas Ward, Jr.; brothers, Herman, Maurice and Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Roberts and husband, Tommy; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and sister, Hazel Ward Champlin.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
