Thomas D. Mann greeted his Lord with “Happy New Year” and “thumbs up” on October 26, 2012. This greeting was well known to his many friends and family. This was Tom. Tom was born on August 31, 1932 in San Antonio, TX and raised in Fredericksburg, where he graduated from high school and considered this his home. He attended Tarleton College in Stephenville and was drafted into the Army. He spent his service in Germany and was able to travel Europe during this time. He moved to Austin, where he met his first wife, Dolores. Soon after they married and started their family, they moved to San Antonio to continue his career in the remodeling business where he started his company, “Tom Mann Construction”. Tom was a very kind person and loved by everyone. Many of his friends would say “he was the nicest fellow I ever met”. His interest included get togethers with his family, bowling, tennis, basketball and traveling. Tom married Alice, his present wife in 1996. The last fifteen wonderful years were spent traveling the world. They enjoyed many long rides in the country and trying out unusual restaurants. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dudley T. Mann, Myrtice Powell Mann, his wife of 39 years and mother of his children, Dolores Melcher Mann; son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Linda Mann. He is survived by his present wife, Alice; and his children, Thomas R. Mann (Karen), David Mann (Lisa), Steve Mann, Kenneth Mann (Luli), John Mann, Cynthia Cornelius (James) and Suzanne Wesch (Darrell). Tom is very proud of his 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by step-daughters, Susan Gobin(Jim), Debbie Madden, Kristina Herrera (Victor); 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. They will miss him immensely. We are most grateful for Vitas Hospice and support from family and friends, mentioning Patricia Ramirez & Lupe Gonzales, for the extra mile. Thomas was a devoted member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He was previously active in the Knights of Columbus. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate, 78216. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
