

Hardie Wesley Nettles III (Tripp), passed away on July 6, 2017. Tripp was born in Clarksdale, MS on December 11, 1950, grew up in Austin, TX, attended high school in Richmond, VA and college at the University of Richmond. He was in the US Army from 1973 - 1979 proudly serving one year in Vietnam and 2 1/2 years in Germany. Tripp moved to San Antonio in the early 80's and met his future wife while he was watching a softball game she was playing in. They were married on April 13, 1985 and together they raised four amazing children. Tripp enjoyed sharing his love of sports with his kids and spent countless hours from CYO through college supporting their baseball, softball and volleyball teams. During the last six months, he bravely fought a battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was one of a handful of participants in a clinical trial that hopefully will one day lead to a cure that will benefit future patients of this disease.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Liz Nettles; his daughters, Kelly, Lauren and Amy and his son, Craig. He is also survived by his sisters, Pat D'Aloisio, Kathy Balch (John); his brother, Tim Nettles (Liz); his sisters-in-law, Pat Keene (Lynn), Charlotte Burdine (Jim), Kathy Faktor (Kevin), Margaret DeWitt (Barry) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Bone Marrow Transplant and 8th floor Oncology Units at Methodist Hospital as well as the Leukemia research team at MD Anderson Cancer Center for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, we would like to ask that you make a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or that you consider making a blood or platelet donation at your local blood and tissue center.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 12, at 6:00 pm at Porter Loring North followed by a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will be on Thursday, July 13, at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A reception will be held in the church banquet hall prior to departure to the cemetery for a 1:00 pm burial at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with Military Honors.
