Colonel John L. Phipps, PhD, USAF (Ret.), age 82, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in San Antonio. He was born on July 3, 1930 in Dallas, TX to parents, John and Katherine Phipps. John was a member of M.E.N.S.A., a Combat Veteran in Korea and Vietnam, he was present at the birth of the Internet at Rand Corporation, and he conceived, organized, and founded "Community College of the Air Force" in April of 1972. John was the Director of the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife, Kathleen Phipps; son, John G. Moore; stepdaughter, Gail Branam; daughter, Debbi Thomas; stepson, Mark Sheedy; stepson, David Sheedy; stepdaughter, Karen Morrison.
