

John Albert Kennedy, age 93, was called home on February 3, 2017. John was born May 28, 1923 in Bovina, Texas to Odessa and Rufus Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his wife Verdie; his parents; brother, Donald; and daughter, Bettie Phillips. He is survived by daughters Gale Putnam (Carroll), Barbara Hewett, Sharon Martin (Rick) and son Gary Denson (Marci). He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Putnam (Nici), Aaron Putnam (Shelley), Michael Putnam (Katherine), Carlon Lloyd Haas, Les Haas, Sherrie Denson, Vicki Denson, La Donna Burkett, Darren Hewett, Jeff Hewett, Tambra Phillips (deceased), Todd Phillips, and Shonda Cummins; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Jeannette Householder (Lois); and nephew, Alan Householder (Debbie).
John was one of America's true heroes. He served as the top-turret gunner on a B-17 which was shot down over Germany on April 22, 1944 and spent thirteen months as a Prisoner of War. He served his country for 23 years in the Air Force.
John was a long-time member of the San Antonio Classic Thunderbird Club. His love for cars and knowledge of how to keep those "little birds" running will be missed by his many dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Porter Loring McCullough followed by a Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:00 A.M.
