

Vanessa Lynn Vasquez ended her earthly journey on February 4, 2023. She was born on May 20, 1970 to George and Linda Vasquez in San Antonio, TX and lived a full and productive life. Vanessa graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1990. In the fall of her senior year, she began a career that spanned 30 years, working at Zito’s Deli and Sandwich Shop where she was a valued employee and made friends with many of the regular customers. She loved her job and hated to miss work for any reason.
To know Vanessa was to love her. Everyone commented on her beautiful smile, outgoing personality, and willingness to help others. She loved music, movies, shopping, dancing, traveling, taking pictures, word search books, doing latch hook, competing in Special Olympics and outings with many friends. She was always ready for Christmas and birthday Celebrations for everyone. She participated in Race for the Cure, Alzheimer’s Association walks, & Battle of Flowers Parade. She was honored as Special Olympics 2002 Athlete of the Year, 2015 Global Messenger of TX and served with the Athlete Leadership Program. She joined Special Friends Group at Trinity Baptist Church, and attended religion classes at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
She was always ready for adventures and in her travels she tried para-sailing in Port Aransas, rode a snow mobile in Lake Tahoe, boat rides and tubes at Lake LBJ, snorkeled in Hawaii and Cancun, hiked in Shenandoah National Park, played the slot machines in Las Vegas, and went apple picking in Virginia!Vanessa loved all her family and was especially proud of her nieces and nephews who called her “Auntie”. Her 2 sisters in law and the Pinetree Girls, whom she resided with for 20 years, became her sisters.
Vanessa is survived by her mother, Rosalinda “Linda” Vasquez, brother Steve Vasquez (Diana), sister-in-law Lillian Vasquez, numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews/nieces, cousins, uncles and aunts. She is preceded in death by her father George Vasquez Sr, brother, George Vasquez Jr., grandparents, Inez & Carlos Vasquez Sr, grandparents Erasmo & Concha Hernandez, Aunts Yolanda Van Brandt and Shirley Vasquez.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 am, on Monday, February 20, 2023, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
