

Vernon Bernard Michalek, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 19, 1933, in High Hill, Texas, to parents Ernestina Berger and Rudolph Eddie Michalek. After graduating from Schulenberg High School, Vernon moved to San Antonio where he attended business college and had a long career as a comptroller. He later served as treasurer on the board of the Casa de Padres Catholic Priest Retirement home.
Vernon met the love of his life, Carolyn Marie Knuepper, at the Hermann Sons dances in San Antonio. They had their first date in 1957 and married in 1959. They raised two wonderful children.
Vernon loved spending time at their lake house in Sunrise Beach where many close friendships were formed. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises with family and friends. He enjoyed the game of golf and participated in many charity golf tournaments. His love for golf continued through the golf channel after he was not physically able to play.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Ernestina Michalek. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn; his son, Kenneth and wife Kari Michalek; daughter Norma and husband Ron Oling; grandsons Camden Michalek, Dylan Michalek and Grant Oling and step-granddaughter Lane Ruhland and her husband Tyler; brother Eugene Michalek and wife Lorraine; sister Marcella Sauter and husband Leonard. He also is survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
