The breath of life, the energizer of our very souls and spirit to the fiber of our beings was lost to us on December 4, 2022. Today we meet to celebrate and honor the life of Veronica Hodge Trim. Born on January 27, 1946, in the village of Mocha/Arcadia, Guyana, Veronica was a devoted mother, loving wife, mentor, and friend to many. She is now at peace resting in the arms of our heavenly father.
Her steadfast love, kindness, and altruism deeply rooted in the knowledge and devotion to the Christian faith will be missed; but never forgotten. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents John and Louisa Hodge and her brother Compton Hodge. She is lovingly survived by her two children, Marcelle Gordon and Samuel Terrence Trim, her husband of 50 years, Dennis Terrence Trim, her brothers Neville and Hubert “Sydney” Hodge and countless nieces and nephews.
Veronica had a dream of a better life and immigrated to the United States in 1969. Taking that leap of faith and putting her trust in God, she did not look back. As part of her sacrifice, she left her daughter Marcelle from her first marriage in the care of her mother to pursue her dreams. Veronica was selfless and always put her family first. As opportunities arose, she did not forget her family and relatives and was instrumental in assisting them in immigrating to the US.
She met her husband Dennis in New York City, and they were married in 1972. Their union resulted in the birth of their son, Samuel. As a military spouse she traveled extensively and resided in various cities throughout the U.S. and abroad. While they were stationed in Germany, she started her career with the civil service and worked for both the U.S. Army and Air Force until retiring in 1999. After retirement, she continued to serve in her career field as a Volunteer.
Veronica was a devout Christian and attended services at both the DoDD Field and Gift Chapels at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX as well as other churches within the local San Antonio community. Her strong faith, disciplined life and assertive personality endeared her to many and to all who were lucky to have met her. Veronica was classy and sophisticated, an avid reader, excellent cook, and perfect hostess. However, her passion was cooking! She could whip up a gourmet meal in no time and her creations were worthy of any noted chef. Her friends and co-workers enjoyed the beautiful luncheons and dinners she hosted and the numerous delicacies, especially those from her homeland she prepared for the office.
Veronica, may you now rest in power; and let your love, faith and strength continue to shine and resonate as a bright light within each of our hearts.
In remembrance, her favorite prayer: May the Love of God enfold you; May the Light of God surround you; May the Power of God protect you; May the Presence of God watch over you and wherever you are, God is! Amen.
