Vicki was preceded in death by her father, James Lamar Smith. She will be deeply missed by her mother, Anita Maxine Smith; her siblings Rick (Darla), Karen, and Daryl (Lisa); and many extended family members and lifelong friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Larry Vasquez; her children, Eric and Kim (John); her stepchildren, Javier (Sabrina) and Chris (Joann); and her beloved grandchildren, Alicia, Chris Jr., Isaiah, Alex and Max.
Born on June 25, 1955, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Vicki Lynne Smith moved to San Antonio in 1958 due to her father’s service in the United States Air Force. There, she formed friendships that would last a lifetime.
In 1989, Vicki began a 30-year career at University Health System. She spent 10 years as a Pharmacy Technician in the OR Pharmacy before advancing to Lead Technician in the Medical Assistance Program (MAP). Over the next two decades, she helped countless chemotherapy patients access life-saving medications while also saving the health system millions of dollars. Her expertise centered on Hematology-Oncology patients, though it extended across many areas. Vicki was known for her compassion and for forming meaningful connections with the patients she served.
It was at University Health System that Vicki met the great love of her life, Larry. They were married on the San Antonio River Walk in 1996. Vicki was deeply devoted to her family and embodied unconditional love as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her love was freely given and never had to be earned.
Vicki’s energy was boundless. She was bubbly and outgoing, yet she also cherished quiet moments at home. She often began her days reading before dawn and spent evenings working on puzzles as the sun set. She loved traveling, whether with family or on her next annual “girls’ trip.”
In recent years, her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren reach milestones and participate in activities. In any crowd, her cheers could always be heard above the rest.
Vicki will be missed by all those who knew her.
