Vickie Davidson King, 61, passed away peacefully Nov. 3 surrounded by her husband and daughter after a 10-year battle with leukemia. Born in Tyler and raised in the Permian Basin, she came to San Antonio in 1974 as the education writer for the Express-News. She also wrote a weekly "Saturday Spotlight" column profiling local and national personalities. As Education Writer, Davidson won several awards from the Texas State Teacher Assn. Vickie also later worked in the public relations department of St. Mary's University before working for several years in the USAA Property & Casualty Marketing Dept. In 1990 she began working full time with her husband, Ben, for Talking Taco Records. The company records and distributes ethnic music CDs and downloads. Vickie was in charge of finances and royalties to artists - with the distinction of never missing deadlines even while dealing with earlier bouts of leukemia. Recently her photos were used as covers for Talking Taco downloads albums. There are over 30 of her photos on I-Tunes. An animal lover Vickie consistently provided homes for stray cats throughout her life. Vickie was an incredibly loving mother, wife and friend. She is survived by her husband Ben King and daughter Jessica King of Dallas as well her mother Lois Davidson and brothers Bruce Davidson of San Antonio and Terry Davidson of Austin; sister-in-law, Ronda Davidson; niece, Elizabeth Davidson; nephew, James Davidson; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Leslie Noe; niece, Lindsey Noe, all of Dallas.
