

Virgil Monroe Lucky passed away Thursday, February 3rd of natural causes. Born on September 28, 1923, he was 98 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia (2008). Virgil is survived by his 2 sons Richard, (Gayle) and Sonny, (Myung Hee), as well as 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, stepdaughter Janet and nephew James.
Service to God and country exemplifies Virgil. He was born in Iowa, raised in Missouri and entered the Army at age 19 in 1942. Virgil was a 20-year-old staff sergeant and combat engineer when he landed on Omaha Beach on D Day. He was awarded a Presidential Citation and a Purple Heart for his WWII efforts. He served in the Army for 20 years. Some of his posts included forts in Kansas, California, White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico and Taipei, Taiwan. He retired as a Major and then earned 2 masters degrees. His first marriage ended and he eventually met and married Virginia.
Virgil entered Civil Service and became a safety inspector for the Armys hospitals which brought him to reside in Japan, Korea, California, Arizona and finally Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.
He and Virginia enjoyed many annual reunions of the Armys 6th Engineer Special Brigade. After retiring in the mid 90s, they settled in San Antonio and became active with Northeast Baptist Church.

Rev. Joe Walts and Rev. Shad Purcell will officiate. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Northeast Baptist Church.
