Virginia “Sue” Keating was born in Kansas City Missouri on October 10, 1930 and went to her heavenly home on April 6, 2025. There, she was reunited with her husband of 41 years, Jerry F. Keating and their son, Jerry T. Keating. Her daughter, Pamela Harper and son-in-law, Charlie, were her love and support for the past 12 years. They will miss her positive, sweet disposition, as she always was happy and never complained, even when most people would have. Nothing would get her down and she fought the fight until she could no longer.
Sue worked for over 35 years alongside her husband delivering the Kansas City Star. She manned the phones, did all of the invoicing and bookkeeping for hundreds of customers, and from whenever needed she would even throw papers while Jerry drove. In their early retirement years, they took on delivery the Wednesday Shoppers. Eventually, they found some relaxation time at the Lake of the Ozarks-Sue loved to fish for crappie. Sue had a servant’s heart. She volunteered for over 20 years at the Overland Park Christian Church nursery. For many years she was a member of the American Legion Post 327 Auxiliary and served as an officer. She also volunteered every day at a nursing home for over 10 years. She loved playing bingo and being surrounded by friends.
She lived the first 82 years of her life in Kansas City and Overland Park, then moved to San Antonio, Texas to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Charlie Harper. She was a member of Northern Hills UMC, until Covid and waning health made it too difficult to attend.
Along with Pam and Charlie Harper, Sue leaves behind her three beloved grandchildren, their spouses and five great-grandchildren: Tim Harper and Brittany, with Charlotte (Dallas), Christopher Harper and Dianne with Graciella and Gabriella (Japan) and Karlyn Robertson and Patrick with Gavin and Autumn (South Korea).
The last few months she resided at Pipestone Place, a wonderful home filled with a lovely, compassionate staff that cared for her and took care of her until her end. The family would like to give Sam and his staff their sincerest and deepest gratitude for all that they have done. Hope Hospice also served Sue and her family with dignity, love and respect. Thank you to all who cared for Sue and gave her a reason to smile as she traveled her difficult journey home. Sue will be cremated and she will return to Kansas City for her final resting place.
