In high school he was an outstanding athlete in both football and baseball where his high school sweetheart, and later his wife, Diane Jackson was a cheerleader. They became parents to Holly in 1974 and he loved being a girl dad. Sports were in his blood and he excelled in college football and baseball and carried this love into his career as a high school American History teacher and coach. He often professed that he never worked a day in his life because the students and athletes drove his passion.
When he lost his precious Diane in 2004, the students rallied around him with love and made certain he had breakfast tacos and Big Red. Holly married Bill Buell in 2007 and gave him two grandchildren, Kayla and Nicholas. As a history teacher he had a love to travel and explore our country. He said that the three places everyone needs to visit are, Niagara Falls, Mount Rushmore, and the Grand Canyon. During that next summer, his mother and sister and brother-in-law took him and Holly under their wings and introduced them to the adventures of gambling and traveling across the country to casinos. He loved playing the slots.
At St. Anthony, Wayne taught with Carol McGuire and their friendship grew over six years into their second loves. They were married at St. Anthony in 2000. He introduced her to his love of travel and joy at the casinos. Lake Tahoe became their favorite destination. He became a bonus dad to Carol’s three children Shaun (Sara), Molly (Brian), and Kevin and two bonus grand children, Meredith and Henry. Throughout his life he lived his faith every day and inspired those around him to become better people. He was strict, but fair, and always loving. During this latest round of cancer and infection his faith never wavered and his favorite Bible saying “If God if for us, who can be against”. May he rest in eternal peace.
