Wenda (Garner) Durand, 83, of Bulverde, Texas, passed away to go be with the Lord on August 9, 2025. Wenda was born on October 21, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Chester Wayne and Hazel Garner. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred (Fred) Durand, and her grandson, Cody Dax Durand Wooten.
Wenda is survived by her daughters Darla Berry (Rick), Gena Dibowitz (Anton), and Dana Durand; grandchildren Bobby Wooten (Katie), Kaitlyn Berry (Joe), Rielly Durand, Aurora Dibowitz, and Ellery Dibowitz; and three great-grandchildren, Brinley Morrow, Emilia Avila, and Whitley Wooten. She is also survived by her twin sister, Wanda Brown, and brother, Wayne Garner, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Wenda and Fred shared a wonderful life, spending 60 years together before his passing. They met at a local dance hall favorite, Maxine’s, where they discovered their shared love for dancing. They remained in San Antonio, where they raised their three girls. They enjoyed spending weekends with friends playing cards and dominoes, as well as country and western dancing.
Wenda loved a fun party, Sunday drives with Fred, and playing Bunco with her childhood friends. She had a gift for connecting with people and a heart that welcomed everyone. Wenda worked at The Lone Star Brewery and Employers Insurance of Texas while raising her three daughters. In her later years, she found joy working at Goodwill and the Salvation Army, where she formed friendships with those who were struggling, often opening her home to those in need. She also had a lifelong passion for collecting treasures, always on the hunt in thrift stores for unique finds—especially little surprises for her kids, grandchildren, and cherished great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Wenda will be held Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232, with a memorial service taking place at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private, with only immediate family in attendance. Wenda will be laid to rest with her husband at Hill Country Memorial Gardens in New Braunfels, Texas.
