

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wesley Garrett Haas, a beloved son, brother, fiancé, and Eagle Scout who had a passion for the outdoors. Wesley Garrett Haas passed away on 12th of April 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, determination, and service to others.
Born on 17th day of March 2000 in San Antonio Texas, Wesley Garrett Haas was raised by his loving parents, Joseph and Rosanne Haas, who instilled in him a strong devotion to his Catholic faith, deep appreciation for nature, and a sense of civic duty. He graduated from James Madison High School where he was an active member of the school Orchestra as a Violist and was involved in various extracurricular activities including the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 345. Wesley Garrett Haas worked tirelessly to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. In 2018, Wesley Garrett Haas achieved his goal, earning 26 merit badges and completing a community service project that benefited his local Catholic Church.
Following graduation, Wesley Garrett Haas pursued his love for the outdoors by working at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He spent 2 summers and countless hours hiking, camping, and teaching young scouts the importance of environmental conservation and stewardship. Wesley Garrett Haas was passionate about sharing his love for the outdoors with others and was beloved by all who knew him at Philmont. In addition to his time at Philmont, he hiked across the Grand Canyon twice. During his time at Philmont, Wesley Garrett Haas met the love of his life, Alyssa Hidalgo. The two quickly fell in love and were planning to get married in 2023. Wesley Garrett Haas was thrilled to start a new chapter of his life with Alyssa and was looking forward to building a life together. Despite his young age, Wesley Garrett Haas had already made a lasting impact on those around him. He was admired for his kindness, his sense of humor, and his unwavering commitment to helping others. He will be remembered for his Catholic faith, love of nature, passion for the outdoors, and his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America.
Wesley Garrett Haas is survived by his parents, Joseph and Rosanne Haas, his siblings William and Matthew Haas, and his fiancé, Alyssa Hidalgo. His extended family included Haas family Uncles/Aunts, John/Katrina, Marcus, Thomas, Richard, Arthur, & Johnny/Madelyn. His Haas family Aunts, Grace, Emilie, Twyla & Jana/Vincent. He is survived by Haas cousins, Richie, Michael, John Russell, Savannah, John Michael, Austin, Madesyn, Aubrie as well as Dimitrios Alexiadis, Aaron Dyson, Adam Dyson, Amanda Dyson, Olivia Lau, Vincent Lau, and Evelyn Lau. On the McNeill side, Uncles/Aunts, Stephen/Nicole, Patrick/Sandy, Mary/Lance Lira. The McNeill cousins include Andrew, Kelly, Erin, Zane, Lauren Lira, Leah Lira as well as Stacy Marie Norris. In addition to his blood relatives, he’s also survived by a remarkably close family friend and mentor Dr. Garry White. He was proceed in death by his Grandparents John R. and Bonnie O. Haas and John and Rosemary McNeill, cousin John Ryan Haas, aunt Theresa Haas, and uncle Steve Dyson.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helen’s Catholic Church at 9 am, April 29, 2023. Pallbearers will be his cousins. Burial will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at 11 am. Pallbearers will be Scouts from his Troop 345. There will be a Scout Posting of the Flags and a Scoutmaster’s Benediction.
While we all mourn the loss of such a bright and promising young man, we take comfort in the knowledge that he lived a life of purpose and made a positive difference in the world. Rest in peace, Wesley Garrett Haas. You will be deeply missed.
