William Burnet Anz, age 94, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 21, 2010, with the grandson who was named for him by his side. A San Antonio native, Bill was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for over 50 years, and a former member of the Order of the Alhambra Bejar Caravan as well as Knights of Columbus Council 4298. His career with Crane Plumbing Supply began in 1936, when he was employed as an office boy. His promotions through the shipping department, exhibit room, and billing desk brought him to the position of salesman in 1945. He was a valued employee of Crane for 42 years until his retirement, when he began part time work with G. W. Anz Contracting Co., a family business. Although we will miss him very much, all who love him rejoice that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Marguerite, who preceded him in death. Bill was a loving, loyal, wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He gave advice only if requested, but voluntarily lent a helping hand without being asked. The family relied on him to fix things, which he loved to do, and he added to his grandchildren's lives with things like trains around the Christmas tree. Bill had a knack of distilling life down to its simplest, most important form; he prioritized his wife and time with his family above everything else and never got caught up in details. He was completely satisfied with everything he had and felt truly blessed. He is survived by his three sons, Ronald Anz and wife Sallie, Gerald Anz and wife Caroline, and Donald Anz and wife, Cheryl, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Bill was known by his grandchildren as "Grandpa"; in fact, the entire family lovingly called him "Grandpa". Although his health and abilities were declining the last few years, he still enjoyed coming to family gatherings, and even the youngest children were drawn to him. He would blow kisses from the wheelchair cab as he was taken back to the nursing home. We will miss him very much.
Growing up, whenever something was broken, we would hear "let's take it to Grandpa, he'll fix it!". Grandpa could fix anything. We loved to follow him into his workshop and see the treasures he was
creating. A great man, with great patience and tenacity for detail, he had a knack for taking something apart and putting it back together again. Maybe that's why he was so successful in daily life. He had the ability to stop, look at the situation, analyze it, see it in a new way, and move
on. Grandpa was just as happy traveling and going on adventures with Granny, as was sitting in his back yard at home, admiring all the yard work he had accomplished that day. He could do an "Aggie war dance" around a campfire in 14 degree weather, or be at home in his big chair watching movies. He was happy and content no matter the situation. A man who loved golf, John Wayne, and the Cadillac Bar - what a great combination. He was a great lover of music, and was always playing his favorite new record for us. Normally a very quiet man, except when mariachis were playing - many a time at La Margarita, when the
mariachis came around, Grandpa would holler out at the top of his lungs "aye yay yay yay!" Holidays with Grandpa were the best. The Bunny Trail at Easter was
always mowed, he always made sure the eggs for the great "hunt" were hidden. The horseshoes were always ready to play afterwards. He made sure there were Christmas lights up on Christmas Eve, and a train
around the tree. Christmas Eve at Granny and Grandpas was always the best part of the holidays.
A devoted husband and father, he was a great example of how to treat a spouse, your family, and how to live a good life. "Anz's Acre" was his pride and joy, and he spent the majority of his life ensuring that he made a good home there for his wife and family.
Grandpa was a man who made sure his grandchildren felt special and loved. A man who kept a homemade keychain for over 30 years, always blew kisses goodbye, constantly joked around, played games, bring
grape soda, would put on a ladybug party hat to make his great- granddaughter feel special on her birthday, taught his great grandchildren how to sprinkle sugar on a tortilla, made homemade
birdhouses for us, and attended every single event whether it be a graduation, basketball game, or birthday party. He didn't miss anything. Above all things, his love and devotion for Granny was a great force. Grandpa, we know you are FINALLY with her. In these past few years, whenever you asked us "where's Granny?", we would simply tell you "she is getting a place ready for you". That always made you content. We are so happy you are finally with her in the place she has been getting ready for you. We love you and miss you so much.
