William Raymond Ewell, known affectionately as Bill to his family and countless friends, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 80. Born on March 17, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, Bill was a man whose warmth and kindness touched all corners of his world.
Bill was the beloved son of the late William and Elenor Ewell and grew up in a lively household with his siblings, David, Bob, and the late Elenor. His formative years in Philadelphia shaped the resilient and spirited man he would become. After graduating from Southwest Texas State with a degree in Criminal Justice, Bill dedicated his life to serving others—a commitment evident in every facet of his career.
A proud Navy veteran, Bill carried the values of courage and dedication through his 31 years as an esteemed officer with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD). His commitment to safety and community well-being continued with an additional 10 years of service with the Northeast Independent School District (NEISD) police. Bill's unwavering integrity and friendly demeanor made him not only a respected figure in the line of duty but also a cherished colleague and mentor.
Beyond his professional life, Bill was a loving father to his daughter, Victoria Noll. He also was a grandfather to Braden and Colton.
An avid golfer, Bill found joy in the fairways and greens of his local courses. His love for the game was only matched by the camaraderie he shared with fellow golfers. Those who played alongside him will remember his friendly banter, his encouraging words after a missed putt, and the laughter that often echoed down the links.
As we bid farewell to Bill, we celebrate a life lived with honor and joy. His legacy of service, friendship, and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Bill's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving family: his brother David, brother Bob, and his treasured daughter, Victoria. While we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, we take solace in the countless memories and stories that Bill leaves behind stories that will be recounted with smiles and a warm sense of gratitude for having known such an extraordinary man.
