Bill and his family brought a family stability to this airman, when I was stationed at the San Vito Air Station. It was a pleasure to meet three times with Bill and Betty in the last few years. We will miss your friendship Bill, but will not forget you.

For the Harwood Family: Mr. Harwood was a special man. Although it's been many years since we last spoke, you've never been far from our thoughts. My daughter Michelle was 3 years old when she sat upon his lap and she's never forgotten how special he made her feel. Thank you. Bill was an inspiration and mentor to me early in my Air Force career, especially while I was assigned to San Vito AS, Italy. I was a young NCO who was on the verge of going down the wrong track, when Bill took me under his wing and into his family. He invited me to his home for dinner one night with a couple of other single troops. The next thing I knew, I was knee deep in the Cub Scout program and spending nearly every eveing with Bill, Betty and the youngsters at their home. On the job, there was no one who could match his insight and knowledge. When my young Italian wife and I returned to San Antonio in 1973, Bill and Betty's home again became ours. We have cherished our friendship through the years and only regret not having dedicated more time in our lives to sharing time with Bill and his family. Bill will be missed by many like myself, who's lives he has touched. But he will never be forgotten.

I first met Bill at Emily's birthday in 1993. What I remember most about that day was my 6 month old daughter crawling around Bill's leg continuoulsy. He kept picking her up and making her giggle like I had never seen her giggle before then!!! He definitely had a way of bringing smiles to children's faces! I also fondly remember the look of pride in his face while holding his newly born grandson Jim and Georgia's 2nd at a gathering. I remember thinking "that's the way Grandpa's are supposed to look when holding a new baby!" He will be missed! Our prayers for his family and his grandchildren.
