

Lt. Col. William Leslie Blankenship, Ret., beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, died on Memorial Day, May 27, 2013, in Richardson TX. Born in Cleveland Ohio on December 24, 1925, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife Mary and his parents Leslie and Martha Blankenship. During his military career, he proudly served his country in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. He attended Kent State University in Ohio and graduated from Texas Lutheran College, in Seguin TX. He is fondly remembered in the football world for coaching the San Antonio Toros, and at Trinity University. He served as Athletic Director at St Mary’s University, Director of Player Personnel for the San Antonio Riders and as a scout for the NFL. Throughout, the military remained an important part of his life as he served as liaison between military bases and universities to support troops seeking higher education.
He is survived by daughters Polly Shah, of San Diego California, Robin Neely, of Richardson, TX, Sons-in law, Habib Shah and Locke Neely, Grandchildren, Morod (wife Adrienne) and Masood Shah, Preston (wife Katie) and Brittany Neely (fiancé Justin Miller), Graham Fontes (wife Bess) and Margaret Fontes Gregg (husband Justin) and Scott Davis (wife Linda), great grandchildren Henry and Mary Miller Fontes, Mary Elise,and Hailey Gregg, Ali and Ben Davis, former son-in-law and wife, Billy and Jodi Fontes, longtime friend and companion, Sandra Smith and her family, Terrance Smith, Juretta, John, Kyle and Keith Zalaznik.
