William Franklin Mayfield Jr.

Sonny was born in San Antonio to William and Mary Jane Mayfield on October 4, 1947. His father’s career in the Air Force moved their family to Germany when he was a toddler before returning home to San Antonio.

Sonny shared 31 wonderful years with the love of his life, India Kluver. They shared a passion for fun, adventure and travel.

Sonny joined the Navy at 17 years old and served one tour at sea aboard the USS Corry during the Vietnam War.

After leaving the military, Sonny worked as an electronics purchaser for Sherman Electronics where he met Indy. Sonny made lifelong friends before retiring after 29 years from Sherman’s. Sonny continued in electronics working for Altex Electronics. He retired from Altex after 24 years.

Sonny is preceded in death by his soulmate, India Kluver; his mother, Mary Jane Simroth, his stepfather, Arthur Simroth; his father, William Mayfield; his sister, Carolyn Welch; his brother, Thomas Mayfield and his grandson, Cody Mayfield.

Sonny is survived by his daughter, Krystal Kelly and son-in-law, Steven Dittfurth; his son, William (Chip) Mayfield and daughter-in-law, Ann Mayfield; his sister Angelique Balanchine; brother-in-law, Craig Welch; niece, Kimberly Willis; grandsons, Aubrey Mayfield and Colten Mayfield.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 11th at 11:00 am in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 11th at 12:00 pm with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
