William Stuart McBirnie, age 72, went peacefully to be with our Lord May 19, 2014 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on June 18, 1941 in Des Moines, IA to Dr. William Stuart II and Phoebe Jane McBirnie. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed. William was an accomplished athlete and outdoorsman. He played football for Baylor University and the University of Tulsa before playing for the Canadian Football League and the San Antonio Toros. He went on to coach High School football at several schools around Texas before ending his career as the Assistant Athletic Director for SAISD. He loved hunting, fishing, going to church, and being with his dogs and family.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher McBirnie and wife Barbara and Patrick McBirnie; three grandchildren, Austin, Brittin and Brennan McBirnie.
The Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
