He was born September 14, 1931 in Middlesex County, Virginia to Warren and Ruth Shackelford.
After graduating from Granby High School, Norfolk, Virginia as one of the top in his class Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he retired after twenty-three years of service. During his tenure in the service he was stationed in England, Germany, Korea and Vietnam where he was a P.O.W. twice.
Bill leaves to cherish his memories his best friends and caretakers, Don Engelhardt (Rose), John Matthews (Liz), Geraldine Karras and in Virginia, a very special friend, Patricia "Patsy" Watson and several cousins.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
