

Being a devoted Christian, a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a true American patriot, this loyal soldier of our Lord was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leola Simons of Madisonville, Texas, and his daughter, Sheryl Jo Simons of Houston, Texas.
He served as a Marine during WWII. After the war, Vernon graduated from the University of Houston from the School of Architecture in 1949. He worked in building management for many years in both Houston and San Antonio. He served as President of the San Antonio BOMA Chapter.
Vernon was involved with Sunshine Singers of Trinity Baptist Church, Deacon at Trinity Baptist and a member of Chapel Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Simons; his three children and their families, William and Renae Simons of Friendswood, Carol and Dana Weaver of Houston and Cary and Bobbe Simons of Carmel, California. He had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren, Leighton, Carlisle and Blaine Weaver of Houston, Billy and Skylar Simons of Friendswood, and Shane Simons of Carmel. He is also survived by his older brother H.H. Simons of Houston.
Vernon, a lover of life and family, was greatly loved by many friends and the entire Tharp "Tribe".
