Fred always exuded warmth, love, and the most marvelous WIT. She had a gleam in her eyes, which always looked right into you. Fred was one of the special people here on Earth.

During 1977-1978, Mrs. English took interest in me at a pivotal juncture in my life. Mrs. English had faith in me - she helped me get scholarships and entry into universities that paved the way for my professional life thereafter. She will be fondly remembered and missed.

Mrs. English was a wonderful counselor for our son, Robert. When he was a junior, another student shot him in the eye with a pellet gun. Not only did she visit him in the hospital, she obtained several scholarships to Texas A&M for him, since the loss of his eye caused him to forfeit the appointments that he had earned to all of the Military Academies. She was truly a compassionate caring person, who made a difference in many student's lives.

I'll always remember Fred as a gracious and energetic lady, quick to smile and utterly down-to-earth. She had one of the rarest human qualities, the balance that comes from self-understanding and acceptance of an imperfect world without complaint; her glass was always half full. Fred engaged new acquaintances in the first few minutes of conversation, so I can't imagine anyone meeting her who wouldn't feel like an instant friend. I can only imagine the loss of those who were closer to this great lady than I was, but I trust that she's making new friends in a higher place and charming them all.

I haven't seen Fred since I was young, but I remember her as a smiling, happy person who very loving and kind. Incidentally, I was at her wedding at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville, December 7, 1942. Her father and my father, Claud Byrom, were brothers.

Fred was always a very special first cousin! Every time we were with her, she was always cheerful, happy, and smiling. With her caring ways she brought happiness and laughter to everyone. We will miss her dearly, but treasure all the wonderful memories.

My prayers and thoughts are with your family. Mrs. English was a dear friend as we worked together at Churchill High School during the years of 1979-83. She was a special lady.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Winifred. She and I worked together at Churchill High School for 10 years and I always knew her to be a very kind and devoted person. I have fond memories of her.
