Clarence Charles Green passed away on October 2, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time, his wife of 56 years, Darlene, his daughters, and grand children were at his side. The family takes comfort in knowing that their son/brother, Joseph Andrew Green, who proceeded them in death, was there as well, holding Clarences’ hand and guiding him home. Then immediately going fishing.
Clarence was born January 22, 1947 in San Bernardino, California to Herbert and Lillian Green. He was one of 12 kids; Dennis, Ernest, Bonnie, Philip, Rennie, Arlene, Alfred, Herberta, Mosetta, Robert and John. He learned at an early age about the importance of being a hard worker and respectable citizen. Clarence graduated from Pacific High School in 1964. Shortly after he met the love of his life, Darlene McAlpine. They married and had four kids, Laurie, Julie, Joseph (Julie’s twin who passed three days after birth), and Kristie.
Clarence was a Vietnam veteran. He was an honored member of the first and most illustrious crew which distinguished itself forever when it was commissioned as The Helicopter Attack (light) Squadron Hal-3 better known as The Seawolves. His medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal (2 stars) and The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He always spoke of his fellow brothers with pride. He never forgot.
Clarence worked at Kaiser Steel/California Steel for 40 years during which time he only missed 1 day of work. He took pride in knowing the ins and outs of the steel making process and would gladly give you a lifetime of information about it if asked.
Clarence had such a sparkling personality. He knew someone everywhere he went and they were family to him, such as the crew at his favorite Stater Bros and people that worked at the hospital. He had lifelong friends that he fished with and played cards such as Ray, Bernie, Tim, Rick, and his brother in arms Bob Birmingham. His laughter and smile would illuminate the room especially during his epic fish frys with family and friends. He was the most kind and generous father to us and to anyone that needed help and expected nothing in return. He taught us to work hard and to do what needs to be done and of course to fish. Although his first love is Darlene, he had a second love that had him laughing and smiling through everything, his kitty Abbey.
Our father said he had lived a good life filled with love and family, fun memories with his great grandchildren, and that he went everywhere he wanted to go. We will miss him but he leaves us with his favorite saying, “What in the world”, until we meet again dad.
