

He was preceded in death by his four siblings, his wife, Irish Viriginia, and a son, Dr. Dennis Schumacher. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Hoak (Tom) of Yucaipa, California, his son, Roland (Cindy) of Benecia, California, four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Leslie enjoyed a long and productive career in education, beginning as a Biology teacher in Spencer, South Dakota but soon was called to serve his county. He served as a Naval Pilot in the Pacific during World War II. He continued his career a Superintendent of Meckling High School in Meckling, South Dakota. His career took him to San Bernardino, California, teaching at Pacific High School in 1953. He was promoted to Vice Principal of Eisenhower High School in Rialto, where he was responsible for its opening in 1959. He served as Principal of Rialto Junior High from 1964 until his retirement in 1980.
He was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church from 1953 until his death. Leslie lived a long and fulfilling life, touching many and will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1pm at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 3310 North G Street, San Bernardino, CA 92405.
