Ryan Dean Hurley passed away on March 19, 2026, at the age of 66. He was born on January 5, 1960, and was a resident of Highland, California. He is survived by his sister, Lynsey Hurley Clark (Bill Clark); his two nieces, Chelsey Clark and Camille Spear (Andy Spear); one great-niece; and three great-nephews.
Ryan grew up and lived in the North End of San Bernardino for most of his life. He attended Hillside Elementary School, Shandin Hills Junior High School, and Cajon High School (Class of 1978). He later earned an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration from San Bernardino Valley College.
As a child, Ryan was passionate about baseball and excelled at the sport. He played shortstop and third base and was a switch hitter. At about 10 years old, he developed “Little League Elbow” and, determined to continue playing, finished the season as a left-handed first baseman. Ryan was a lifelong Dodgers fan.
Ryan was 13 years old when he was severely injured in a motorcycle accident with his father, Jimmie, who predeceased him. This event profoundly changed his family’s life. Ryan faced many challenges but maintained his sense of humor, strong work ethic, compassion, and sensitivity. He taught his sister, Kim, how to ride a motorcycle, cared for his whippet, Snowby, and assisted his older sister, Lynsey, as a handyman. When his mother, Rita, was diagnosed with a terminal illness, Ryan stepped up to become her full-time companion and caretaker, a blessing to his family.
Ryan cared for the family home and his mother’s dogs and birds until he eventually moved to Highland, where he lived quietly and simply. He enjoyed reading two newspapers daily, watching sports, and tinkering in his shed. His family will remember and miss his kind spirit, gentle wit, playful teasing, and sly smile.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity in Ryan Dean Hurley’s name.
A Committal Service will be held at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404, US, on April 6, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
