

After graduating from high school, Tommie left Jesup, GA and went to Miami where he lived with his older brother Sam. He was employed by the Herald Parking Garage. It was at that time he met and married Geraldine Kirkland.
He enlisted in the USAF in March of 1963. He was stationed at Lackland AFB , Texas and then transferred to March AFB. He was a trained telephone installer and repairman during his tour of duty which also took him to Thule, Greenland where he always made jokes about a woman behind every tree but “Ha..Ha..Ha.. no trees in Greenland” . He worked at Kaiser Steel, Fontana, CA as a Crane Operator for 16yrs and when the plant closed he became a Correctional Officer for the Department of Corrections for 16years, retiring in 2006.
He married Geraldine Kirkland, September 25, 1962 in Miami, FL then moved to California in 1963. Two children were born to them, Tsara Linette (Donald) and Robert Preston (Katie) Attical. Geraldine has preceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn two grandchildren, Tehrance Harris and Dominic Sanders. He leaves four sisters Daisy Evans, Catherine Jackson, Johnnie Mae (Willie) Murray and Bessie Allen of Jesup, GA. He leaves two sisters in law, Luebertha Phillips, Brenda (Tony) Anin and brother in law, James Moody.He leaves a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends.
Tommie was an outstanding father, grandfather, uncle, brother in law and basketball player winning many trophies to his credit. Tommie was a very friendly person everywhere he went he never met a stranger. Tommie was an adventurous person willing to go anywhere and share with his family many fun family vacations. He was known to everyone as “Brother Tommie” the most neighborly person you ever met. To his family he was known as “Buddy”. To his neighborhood he was “Mr. Tommie” to the kids of all ages. He will be missed greatly and can never be replaced. He was truly one of a kind.
