Alfred "Al" Buddy Dolida, age 82, of Escondido, California passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 20, 2021. Al was born in San Bernardino, California, but spent most of his formative years in San Jose, California. He was a dedicated member of the US Navy, both active duty and reserves for 36 years achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his service to country as a commanding officer in the California State Military Reserves for another five years. Later, he maintained his connection with the Navy through his service as a volunteer docent at The Midway Museum, the ship he had proudly served aboard while on active duty.
In addition to his military service, Al had a successful career working at Lockheed Martin for 40 years. He worked his way up from the receiving docks to a Supervising Logistics Engineer. He was also a dedicated and loyal family man who was married to the love of his life, Norma, for 58 years until her passing. Together they raised three wonderful children, two daughters, Terri and Tammy, and one son, Michael. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling and was able to visit many countries including three in Europe to celebrate his 80th birthday. In addition, he was a self taught "jack-of-all-trades" who used his skills for remodeling homes and restoring cars. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family who he loved with all his heart. He is survived by his 3 children; Terri (Rolf); Tammy (TJ); & Michael (Frances); 8 grandchildren; Kevin; Kyle; Michael; Justin; Gerrod; Austin; Ashley; & Emily; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a proud veteran & an even prouder Dad, Grandpa, & Great-Grandpa. We will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will occur Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at The Midway Museum, 910 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101 with a reception following.
