UN MESSAGE DE LA FAMILLE
Alice Marie Lange (Fox) was born on Aug 13, 1942 in San Diego, CA and passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025 at age 82. She was a loving wife, beloved mother, caring grandmother, and dedicated educator. Born an only child to Thomas and Donna Fox, she developed a passion for books and learning history at a young age. She spent her free time at the public library reading, was a Girl Scout member, and enjoyed camping with her family. Growing up she was an active member of Job’s Daughters, serving as Honored Queen in 1961. Alice graduated Crawford High School in 1960 and continued her education at San Diego State University. Here she was president of Chi Omega sorority and earned her BA and teaching credential in 1964. She went on to earn her Master’s in Education and devoted 32 years to educating children in the San Diego Unified School District. Her dedication to the teaching profession was recognized by the many accolades including the EXCEL award and later Teacher of the Year. Alice's impact extended beyond the classroom, touching the hearts of colleagues, friends, and the many young lives she helped shape. In 1965 Alice married Walden Lange and they spent 49 wonderful years together before his passing. They enjoyed traveling and valued all opportunities to spend time with family. Alice also held a deep and enduring love for Yosemite National Park. It was her sanctuary, a place where she found beauty, peace, and connection. In her retirement, she continued to dedicate hours volunteering with the Escondido Public Library where she was instrumental in the success of the Friends of the Library and Friends Book Shop programs. She also campaigned to save Bernardo Mountain from development and volunteered with the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. Alice enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, and movies. She always seemed to be working on a crossword puzzle and was the one to beat in Scrabble. However, there was nothing she treasured more than family. She loved family dinners, daily phone calls, and cruises were continually being planned. Always willing to help those in need, the legacy she has imprinted on her family will live on. Alice is survived by her daughter, Dotty Lange Carreno, her husband John, and their 4 children and her daughter Kim Lange Tarke, her husband Adrian, and their 2 children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Yosemite Conservancy, Southern Poverty Law Center, or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Services will be Friday, July 25 at El Camino Memorial Park -Sorrento Valley 10am., reception to follow. Interment will be Saturday, July 26 at 3:00p.m., same location.
