Alice Rex Miller passed away peacefully on September 16th in La Jolla California. Alice was born on October 15th 1928 to Earl Rex and Helen Garrity. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1992. She is survived by her three children Wendy Miller of Poway, Chad Miller of La Jolla, and Mike Miller of Cape Elizabeth ME. She was also a source of love to her 6 grandchildren Christopher Miller, Alex Miller, Stephen Miller, Elizabeth (Miller) MacNeil, Megan (Miller) Cook, and Madison Miller and 10 great grandchildren.
Alice was born in Newcastle PA in 1928 and was raised with her older sister Jane in Struthers Ohio by her loving grandmother. She later moved with her father to Phoenix AZ in the 1930’s where her father owned an ice cream store and Alice worked after school. Later, after attending boarding school in Glendale CA she moved back to Phoenix where she met and married Jack Miller June in 1949. She and Jack began a family raising their 3 children in Phoenix. Jack’s work with Del Webb Corporation later took them to southern California in 1967. The family settled in Rainbow CA the summer of 1969. During the ensuing years Alice raised her children with love and intention while also working in the Temecula school district until she became co-owner of Miller’s Gift and Hardware of Sun City California. Alice and Jack later moved to Pacific Beach with Jack retiring and Alice working in Administration at Doyle Elementary School of SDUSD.
Alice was an accomplished and creative miniatures hobbyist, was active in her church St. Brigid, and North Shores Women’s Club, participated in water aerobics well into her eighties, loved long walks along the bay, and loved gatherings when she would see her six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was vocally grateful every day to live in a city she loved and near the ocean. Her surviving family is eternally grateful for her guidance, strength, and example of loving optimism and gratitude.
