

Ann Akers Higgins, aka, Annie and Granny Annie, a long time resident of La Jolla died peacefully on September 16, 2014. She was 92 years old. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, she had two sisters. She moved to Los Angeles at 18 and started a career as a Saks Fifth Avenue model. While working in Los Angeles, she met her husband, William Higgins. They later moved to Coronado during which time he was active duty in the navy. She owned and operated the successful Smoothy's restaurant of La Jolla and was one of the first to coin the name, Smoothy. She loved Cabo , she was a pioneer and one of the first to explore the area extensively. She later went on to make it her second home. She loved swimming in the ocean, she was a champion backgammon player and an avid tennis player. She was full energy and spirit, touching many peoples' lives. She was dearly loved by all and will be remembered forever. She is survived by five children her son Pat Higgins of San Diego, daughter Eileen Edwards of Washington, son Tim Higgins of San Diego, daughter Honor Krutsinger of Dubai and son Dan Higgins of San Diego, seven grand children and one great grand child. She is predeceased by her husband William Higgins, daughter Kathleen Sabo and son William Higgins. A private celebration of Ann's life is planned, followed by a scattering of her ashes at sea.
